During the next T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA, Sunil Narine has ruled out making a comeback on the international scene.

After recording his maiden T20 century this IPL season, the opener for the Kolkata Knight Riders, who last competed for the West Indies in August 2019 and declared his retirement in November 2023, hinted at a potential comeback to the national team. In a casual conversation, he said to the broadcaster, “It is what it is but we will have to see what the future holds,” when they inquired about his potential to play for the West Indies once more.

While he ended his career as an international cricket player at the end of the previous year, Narine continued to play well for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, amassing 286 runs at an average above forty and taking nine wickets with his off-spin.

The KKR opener declared that the door to international cricket is “now closed” after quitting the sport in November 2023.

Due to Narine’s recent success, West Indies T20I captain Rovman Powell revealed he was attempting to talk the all-round player out of retirement so he may play for the Caribbean team in the T20 World Cup in June, which they will co-host with the USA.

However, Narine announced on social media on Monday that he was content with his choice to retire and that he will not be making a return to international cricket.

I hope this message finds you all well and in good health.

I’m truly flattered and humbled that my performances recently have moved many people to publicly express their wish for me to come out of retirement and play in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

I have made peace with that decision and whilst I never wish to disappoint, that door is now closed and I will be supporting the guys who take the field in June for West Indies. Guys who have worked hard over the past few months and deserve to show our wonderful fans that they are capable of winning another title. I wish you all the best.

On June 2, the West Indies take on Papua New Guinea in Guyana to begin their T20 World Cup campaign. They then play Uganda, New Zealand, and Afghanistan in Group C.
