New Zealand team for the 2024 T20 World Cup

As New Zealand announced their roster for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June, they were the first side to do so. Veteran hitter Kane Williamson was selected captain.

With Kane Williamson leading an experienced group, Devon Conway has been included in New Zealand’s initial 15-man 2024 T20 World Cup roster. Adam Milne, the fast bowler, has been ruled out due to an ankle injury that required surgery.

Veteran players Tim Southee and Trent Boult are also included in the team; Southee has been selected to participate in his eighth T20 World Cup. The only players on the team without a T20 World Cup experience are Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra.Ben Sears is the 16th travelling reserve that has been announced.

For the ninth iteration of the 20-over showcase, the Kiwis announced their 15-player team on Monday. The Black Caps, meanwhile, selected an experienced group that features Williamson and the quick bowling tandem of Tim Southee and Trent Boult.

Boult will be making his fifth appearance, and Southee will be making his seventh as the Kiwis look to win their first title in the game’s shortest international format.

Devon Conway Selected in New Zealand team for the 2024 T20 World Cup

Due to his thumb injury sustained in February, Conway was not yet ready to play in the Indian Premier League. Conway went to India to practice with Chennai Super Kings even though he was not allowed to play in the Indian Premier League. He has resumed batting and participated in some wicketkeeping drills. He will start the World Cup for New Zealand as their first-choice goalie.

After missing New Zealand’s past two Twenty20 international series—the home series against Australia in February due to the birth of his third child and the Pakistan trip due to IPL obligations—Williamson, meantime, is back in charge of the team.

Despite how terrible Milne’s injury was, New Zealand coach Gary Stead said it had made it simpler for the selectors to choose the final 15.

The absence of all-rounder Adam Milne (ankle) and key pacer Kyle Jamieson (back) from the tournament due to injuries, as well as the absence of Will O’Rourke, Tom Latham, Tim Seifert, and Will Young from the squad despite their recent strong performances against the white ball, did not come as a major surprise.

Moreover, there was no surprise return of seasoned top-order batsman Colin Munro, as the selection committee chose to add new talent Rachin Ravindra, along with fast bowler Matt Henry, as one of just two players who had never played in a T20 World Cup.

On June 7, New Zealand will play their opening match of the T20 World Cup against Afghanistan in Guyana. Group C matches with co-hosts West Indies, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea will come after.
