Tuesday, April 2, witnessed the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 28 runs, dealing a severe setback to the team. Due to an injury, their IPL 2024 acquisition, right-arm bowler Shivam Mavi, will not play in the current season.
The Lucknow-based squad signed the 25-year-old for INR 6.40 crores after a heated bidding battle with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Indian bowler, who did not play for LSG in the 2024 Indian Premier League, will miss the remaining games because of an undisclosed ailment.

Shivam Mavi has been dealing with an injury since August 2023. Since then, he hasn’t appeared in any competitive cricket matches.

Speaking about the LSG, after two victories in three games, the team captained by KL Rahul is ranked fourth in the IPL 2024 points standings. Despite losing their first game against the Rajasthan Royals, they have won their last two games. The Lucknow-based team will next play the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, April 7, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
LSG has not yet announced a substitute. The other seam-bowling alternatives they have include Yudhvir Singh, Arshad Khan, Mayank Yadav, Yash Thakur, Mohsin Khan, Matt Henry, Shamar Joseph, and Naveen-ul-Haq.
This is the third time that LSG has discovered that a player has been compelled to miss the IPL 2024 season. Mark Wood was first fired by the team for not managing his workload, and Shamar Joseph took over for him. The loss of David Willey put more burden on LSG’s finances, so they decided to bring in Matt Henry to replace the English all-rounder. As of yet, the squad has not named Mavi’s replacement.
