Mohammed Shami :
Due to a left ankle injury that will require surgery in the UK, India bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the 2024 Indian Premier League, a BCCI source informed news agency PTI. After leading GT in the previous two editions, the Indian all-rounder has joined Mumbai Indians and will head them in the 2024 Indian Premier League. GT, on the other hand, will play with Shubman Gill as their new captain.
GT has been a tremendous performer since joining the league in 2022. They emerged victorious on their maiden try in 2022, and they nearly successfully defended the title in the previous year. After losing to MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in an exciting final that went right down to the wire, they had to settle for second place.
Shami was a big part of GT’s victories in each of those seasons. In 2022, the 33-year-old pacer claimed 20 wickets. In the 2023 Indian Premier League, he outperformed himself again, taking 28 wickets at an average of 18.64. When Shami had the new ball, she was very deadly.
Shami last competed for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November. He is not a part of the current Test series against England.
“Shami was instructed to start light running after three weeks and take it from there when he visited London in the last week of January for special ankle injections.
“But the injection didn’t work, so surgery is currently the only course of action available. He is about to travel to the UK for surgery.
