NEW DELHI: After an outstanding showing at the All England Championships, star Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen moved up five spots to claim the 13th rank in the most recent BWF rankings on Tuesday.
The Almora native, 22, rose from 15th to 12th place in the Olympic Games Qualification standings after making it to the semi-finals in Birmingham.
Lakshya Sen witnessed a drop to world No. 25 in April of last year after reaching a career-high rating of world No. 6 in November 2022. He did, however, stage a tremendous comeback, climbing to the 11th position by August before plummeting to the 20th rank earlier in the year due to many early withdrawals.
Following many first-round losses this season, including ones in Malaysia and India, his chances of qualifying for the Olympics were bleak. But he’s come back stronger after making it to the semifinals of the All England Championships and the French Open in quick succession.
Furthermore, HS Prannoy, the bronze medallist from the Asian Games and the World Championships, is presently ranked ninth, followed by Kidambi Srikanth at 27 and Priyanshu Rajawat at 32.
The two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is placed eleventh in the women’s singles category.
The Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty is ranked #1 in men’s doubles, followed in 20th place by Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto. Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly have dropped to 26th place.
Lakshya Sen is on course to guarantee his position in the Olympics, where the top 16 players will be determined by the end of April. In the Paris race, HS Prannoy is now in ninth place, while Sen is also in a position to qualify.

Some of his notable achievements include reaching the finals of the 2021 SaarLorLux Open, securing a bronze medal at the 2021 BWF World Championships, and winning the 2022 Swiss Open, where he defeated higher-ranked players with confidence and composure.
His success has not been limited to individual events. Lakshya has also been an integral part of the Indian badminton team, contributing crucial points in team events and playing a pivotal role in India’s podium finishes in international competitions.
